Recent academic research, and information from a leading commercial provider, sheds light on the popularity of massive, open, online courses among educators.

A study produced by Harvard and MIT found that 39 percent of enrollees in the institutions’ MOOCs identified themselves as teachers– and that a relatively strong percentage were seeking to complete the courses and gain certification.
