Teachers in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina were just starting to pilot a new social-emotional curriculum when the pandemic closed buildings and forced schooling online.

District leaders pushed to instead expand the new programming to all K-8 schools, knowing that remote learning meant students needed mental wellness support more than ever.
