Running the fourth largest school district in the country, Alberto M. Carvalho gets a lot of requests to join education company representatives over dinner.

But the 2014 Superintendent of the Year in the United States and Florida isn’t interested in the sizzle of the steak or the sales pitch.

EdWeek Market Brief spoke with Carvalho about what he looks for in vendor relationships. Watch what he had to say in this short video.

Miami-Dade, with 345,000-students and 40,000 employees, has been led by Carvalho since September 2008. Since then, the district has established wireless connectivity in over 400 schools. His educators are often approached to pilot ed-tech products.

My colleague Michelle Davis shares more insights from Carvalho in her story, “Show Me the Impact: Miami Schools Chief Wants Results,” here.
